Blood Flow Restriction Training with Delfi Device
Blood flow restriction training is a technique that combines low intensity exercise with blood flow occlusion through a specialized tourniquet cuff.
This innovative tool has gained significant attention for its ability to enhance muscle growth, strength, endurance, and recovery, making it a valuable tool in our therapeutic arsenal.
In PT we often deduce that muscle weakness is altering patients’ natural movement patterns and leading to poor biomechanics. Incorrect movement patterns can overload tissues and joints, impair proprioception and our ability to sense our position in space, as well as lead to early fatigue and compromised form throughout an activity. Traditional heavy weightlifting has long been the cornerstone to help increase muscle size, strength, and power output. However, an injury may not allow us to complete heavy lifting with multiple repetitions and sets due to pain, tissue inflammation, and impaired motor control. Blood flow restriction training will allow our patients to get very similar benefits to lifting heavy weights, without excessive loading of the injured tissue and muscle. At Movement State, we utilize the Delfi BFR device which is a Personalized Tourniquet System designed to accurately assess individualized occlusion pressure for optimal control and improved results. The Delfi System is backed by extensive research allowing us to confidently incorporate this technique into rehabilitation programs.
